Photographer Owen Ziliak and reporter Ella McCarthy traveled to Lawrence, Kan., to discover how a community similar to Columbia, Mo. handled the issue of homelessness. This story was a part of the homeless issue beat, marking the beginning of intentionally focused coverage on the issue of homelessness in the community, I guided many journalists with ideas, etiquette, knowledge and connections for future coverage. I worked with photo editors Michelle Gutierrez and Irynka (Kohut) Hromotska to produce visual projects and collaborate with reporters. I collaborated with Owen and the assistant director of photography Margo Wagner to finalize the photo edit, worked with a designer for print and built the web presentation.
